  • 1. Welcoming address by YBhg. Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Mansor Salleh, the President of MWJS. He thanked everyone for attending the AGM or the BGM (Biennial General Meeting). He mentioned that during the AGM-1, it was agreed that the Office Bearers shall hold office for a period of two (2) years. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Office Bearers of 2011- 2013 for their contributions to the betterment of the society. He wishes that MWJS would one day become the ultimate welding professional society in Malaysia. He thanked the Secretariat for all the preparations to have the AGM at Residence Hotel.

  • 2. The President went through the Minutes of the AGM - 2 dated 30th July 2011 to members. Members were provided with the minutes. No issues were raised pertaining to the minutes. Mr. Draman Zainuddin proposed the minutes to be approved and it was seconded by Mr. Mohd Faisal Musa.
  • .
  • 3. The Secretary presented the councils' report during the course of July 2011 - July 2013. Most of which involving activities that were planned and initiated by the current office bearers. He touched on areas pertaining to the collaboration between MWJS - IMM on the JWES AWE and WE programs and announced that MWJS is accepted a member country of the Asian Welding Federation (AWF). He also elaborated on the coming AWE and WE programs in September 2013. He also informed to the members that MWJS is also actively involved in the training and assessment for the CIDB Assessor program where the first training will start sometime in August. He ends his speech by thanking members for their continuous support.

  • No matters arising from the council’s report. The report was accepted and approved unanimously by the members. It was proposed by Tn. Hj. Ismail Abu Bakar and seconded by Mr. KN Dhanapalan.

  • 4. The Treasurer presented his financial report, i.e. Statement of Account from 1st July 2011 - 31st May 2013: He explained that during the said period MWJS had few new memberships but the society was actively involved in developing Learning Packages for CIDB and from this project MWJS managed to make some money. He explained to the members that from the total monies received from the CIDB a small percentage is given to the team for developing the packages as honorarium. The total balance as at 31st May 2013 is RM175,197.74.

  • The financial report presented by the treasurer was approved unanimously. It was proposed by Mr. Mohd Faisal Musa and seconded by Tn. Hj. Ab. Ghani Ismail.

  • 5. For the election/voting of new office bearers, Tn. Hj. Ismail Bakar proposed Mr. Azhar Mahmud to be the temporary chairman and it was seconded by Mr. Draman Zainuddin.

  • 5.1 For the President's post Mr. Leo Paul proposed Mr. Azhar Mahmud but no seconders. Mr. Ahmad Kamal proposed Dr. Samsudin Bani and has unanimous support from the floor
  • 5.2 As for the Vice President's post, Mr. Mohd Faisal Musa proposed Mr. Awaldin Mohd Arif and had a unanimous support from the floor.
  • 5.3 The position of Hon. Secretary was given to Dr. Abdul Aziz Mohamed. He was proposed by Mr. Awaldin Mohd Arif and had unanimous support from the floor.
  • 5.4 As for Hon. Dep. Secretary's post, Mr. Abdul Rahim Omar was proposed by Mr. Dahia Andud and the floor agreed unanimously.
  • 5.5 For the posts of two (2) Auditors, two members were proposed and they are Mr. Shahfuan Hanif Ahmad Hamidi and Mr. KN Dhanapalan. The floor unanimously support and agreed to the selection.
  • 5.6 For the five (5) committee members, the floor unanimously voted and named Mr. Mohd Faisal Musa, Mr. Azhar Mahmud, Mr. Abdul Aziz Dawam, Mr. Dawot Hussin and Mr. Mohamad Azhari Mohamad Azhar.
  • 5.7 It was agreed that the ten (10) appointed sub-committees shall be discussed and appointed at the first council meeting of the new office bearers 2013-2015.

  • 6. Members of the floor unanimously agreed that the out-going President, YBhg. Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Mansor Salleh to become the society's Hon. Advisor and a life member of MWJS. Life Member status is an honor awarded to members that have made a lifetime commitment to the society. This is based on Dato's active role and contributions towards the society since 2007.

SOCIETY'S OBJECTIVES:

  • 1) Improve the technical, commercial and general skill, knowledge and competence of all those concerned with welding in the course of their duties or business.
  • .
  • 2) Promote improvements in welding design, applications, processes and manufacture of welding equipment, consumables and accessories, so as to facilitate acceptable standards.
  • .
  • 3) Encourage training of men and women to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge and qualifications and to raise the professional standard of all members.
  • .
  • 4) Maintaining and advancing materials and welding engineering, bonding and testing technique as well as related processes in the field of training and development, especially providing a well-ordered and modern education of all personnel in business and industry that is using welding, joining, and testing techniques.

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES:

  • Membership shall be divided into the following categories:-

  • 1) PROFESSIONAL MEMBER:
  • At least 21 years of age, a graduate, or a diploma holder of a university or college with 5 years or more relevant welding experience.
  • .
  • 2) ORDINARY MEMBER:
  • Those with experience relevant to welding but without any degree or diploma or any relevant qualifications may also apply for consideration. Note: An ordinary member is allowed to vote.
  • .
  • 3) CORPORATE MEMBER:
  • For companies engaged in relation to welding. The company shall nominate two of its employees to represent it in any of the society’s activities.
  • .
  • 4) HONORARY MEMBER:
  • For those in the opinion of the committee, who have rendered for are in the position to render conspicuous service to the society and advancement of welding.
  • .
  • Every applicant whose application has been approved by the committee shall be admitted to various grades of membership of the society and shall be entitled to all privileges of membership. All Members except Corporate member shall have the right to vote and to hold office in the society.
  • .
  • No university or college students can be allowed to be a member of the society without the prior written approval from the Vice Chancellor of the university concerned.

THE SOCIETY:

  • 1) Malaysian Welding & Joining Society (MWJS) is registered under Section 7 of the Society's Act, 1966 bearing the Registration No.0559-07-SEL established and approved on March 28, 2007

  • 2) MWJS is a society which is opened to all professionals, individuals and companies who are interested in welding, joining, inspections and associated processes.

PURPOSE OF THE SOCIETY:

  • 1) The society is aimed at maintaining and advancing materials and welding engineering, bonding and testing techniques as well as related processes in the field of training and development, especially providing a well-ordered and modern education of all personnel in business and industry that is using welding, joining, destructive and non-destructive techniques.

  • 2) The society will carry out all its activities on a non-profit basis. For accomplishing this visions the society shall practice as:-

  • - An institution for training, auditing and qualification of welding supervisor personnel, welders and specialist staff for related joining methods;
  • - An institution for destructive and non-destructive testing;
  • - A certification agency for personnel and experts particularly for specialist staff inthe field of welding engineering, joining and testing technique as well as the field of inspection and safety engineering;
  • - A laboratory of strength for material testing, determination of mechanical and technological properties and component testing, especially in the domain of welding and engineering and joining technique.

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE SOCIETY SHOULD BE ATTAINED BY THE FOLLOWING MEANS:-

  • 1) Co-operation with national and international welding engineering organizations in the field of training, qualification, testing technique and certification of specialist staff and evaluation of companies.

  • 2) Operation of and participation at congresses and events in the field of welding engineering and joining technique as well as participation at technical fairs locally and abroad.
  • .
  • 3) Imparting information to the members and to the personnel of welding engineering,joining and testing technique through bulletins and/or magazines.

  • The Malaysian Welding Society (MWJS) in partnership with the Japan Welding Engineering Society (JWES) will be conducting certification courses and examinations leading to the status of certified ASSOCIATE WELDING ENGINEER (AWE) and certified WELDING ENGINEER (WE).
  • JWES is an organization accredited by the Japan Accreditation Board to certify welding personnel in Japan according to the requirement of ISO 17024.

  • COURSE CONTENT:
  • The course and assessment examination is based on and meets the requirements of: JWES Standard WES 8103:2008 – Standard for Certification of Welding Coordination Personnel which shall be used to regulate the certification of welding coordination personnel on the basis of Clause 7.3 of ISO 3834-2 and ISO 14731. ISO 3834-2: Quality Requirements for Fusion Welding of Metallic Materials - Part 2 ISO 14731: Welding coordination -Tasks and Responsibilities

ABOUT THE AWF COMMON WELDER CERTIFICATION SCHEME:

  • Common Welder certification Scheme (CWCS) based on ISO9606-1:2012, Qualification testing of welders - Fusion Steels Part 1: Steels

  • The Malaysian Welding & Joining Society (MWJS) is a member of the Asian Welding Federation (AWF) and is actively participating in the first Asia-Wide project of welder qualification tests as prescribed in the ISO 9606-1, the latest edition (2012) of the standard.
  • .
  • The Common Welder Certification Scheme (CWCS) incorporates a Quality System that describes process and procedures for welding examiners, weld testers, welding test centres, auditors of welding test centres to ensure that the welders are qualified to the requirements of ISO 9606-1, edition 2012.
  • .
  • Welders qualified under CWCS are registered with an on-line database and their welding employment record is monitored for needed in re-qualification requirements as needed in skills certification
  • .
  • Employers of welders can address the database following the CWCS protocol developed to recruit welders that they need from the perspective of welding process, steel geometry, type of weld, welding positions and other essential variables described in the respective qualifications
  • .
  • With the Asia-Wide common welder qualification based on ISO standard, welders have better prospects for employment in the Asian region
